Go to the link below and make a copy of each calendar in your Final Project Folder It is time to practice your presentation skills in a short 2-3 min presentation. This will be a quick and easy presentation if you have been completing your assignments. Here is what your presentation will need and what you will be graded on:
Now that you have completed your graphic organizer it is time to finally write your paragraph. Remember that you must include all the information on your graphic organizer which means this will be a longer paragraph (about 12 sentences or more). Remember that you must highlight each part of your paragraph below is an image that lets you know what colors you must use in your marking of your paragraph. DO NOT FORGET: You must write a conclusion it is on page 8 of your organizer.
Before you can start your assignment you must understand something called the 5 levels of analysis. Here is a short powerpoint that explains each of the 5 levels. If you need more help you may ask classmates for their notes as this was covered in class. If that is not a option feel free to come to my office hours to ask for help, you may also email me. The powerpoint is viewable below you can also download the PDF of the presentation.
You will now work on analyzing the evidence you have collected. This is the most important part of your work thus far. Your assignment is to:
You must write your analysis with the sentence starter in the "Analysis" box of your graphic organizer.
Now that you have found your 6 sources we are going to work on finding the appropriate way to introduce your evidence. The first step we must take is to organize our thoughts and our paperwork. You will color coordinate you papers to the TIEA Colors. Go to your graphic organizer (starting on page 2) and highlight all the "Introduce evidence" boxes in yellow. They highlight all the "Analysis" boxes in blue. You will repeat this on every page. When you are done your organizer should look like the image below. Next you will go to your sentence starter handout (if you have lost your you may download it form the U.S. Government/ Econ Class forms page). On the side that says "Examples of Lead-ins to quotations" you will mark the left side in yellow highlighter and the right side in blue highlighter. When you are done your paper should look like the image below. You are now ready to start this assignment! You will look at the sentience starter section (the one you highlighted yellow) read all of the sentence starters and choose the sentence starter that best fits each of your 6 pieces of evidence. You will then take the introduction to evidence you chose and write it in the "introduce evidence / lead in" box of your graphic organizer. Remember you will need 6 lead in sentences 1 for each piece of evidence you have found.
Now that you have identified the problems you have in your community it is time to prove that these issues are a problem. In order to prove that something is a problem there is a criteria list to help you identify the needed evidence. Here are the criteria you may consider when identifying community problems:
You will need to find one quote for each of the 6 criteria mentioned above. You will notice that each page of the graphic organizer is dedicated to one of the 6 criteria of a problem. You must find evidence that matches the criteria on each page. For example page 2 is dedicated to Frequency, so your quote hat to prove that the problem happens often in your chosen community. Once you have found your evidence, quote or fact you will write it in the "Evidence / Quote / Fact" box You will then place the source information in the "where is the quote from" box. Here you place the website, author and date of publishing of your information Below is the in class reading we did for this assignment. You may read it online or download the attached PDF file.
We have been working on writing a strong paragraph that explains the beginning of our semester long project. The graphic organizer needed to complete this part of the assignment will be available at the bottom of this post. In this paragraph you will:
Working with the TIEA graphic organizer: First go to the "Your Community" box on page one of the graphic organizer. In this box you will identify which of your communities you feel most connected to and most would like to learn about and would like to help. Remember that you want to be as specific as you can. EXAMPLE: Middle age Latino Males in South Central. Next to the "three main problems in your community" box. In this box you will identify what are three main problems in your community. List them out as they come and you do not need to place them in order. Next you will analyze your three identified problems. Figure out how these problems are connected. Once you have found the connection decide which of the three is the root of the problems. In other words which is the biggest and most important problem in your community. You will then circle the biggest, most important problem. After you have identified your biggest problem move to the "topic sentence" box and create a powerful topic sentence. The easiest way to do this is to follow this sentence frame. I am a member of the community and the biggest problem facing our community is .
