Today we were fortunate enough to have Mr. Homero Aridjis come to our school and have a dialog with our senior class. Mr. Aridjis is considered by many to be the greatest living Mexican poet. Through out his life he has be an ambassador to two countries. He is currently Mexico's ambassador to UNESCO, and is the president of International PEN. He has published 39 books of poetry and prose that have been translated into a dozen languages. Mr Aridjis has tirelessly worked as an environmental and human rights activist, protecting the worlds natural resources as well as the human rights of indigenous peoples.
Mr. Aridjis spoke to our students about the power they hold to change the world. Telling them to take pride in their identities and heritage and find strength to fight injustice in each other. From his stories of a life time of organizing to his powerful reading of his poems this was truly a once in a lifetime experience for all of us. I hope you enjoy these photos, because we enjoyed the moments they represent.
